OHWTO!

One Hand Washes the Other

OHWTO officially started in 2009, branching off from my jewelry shop on Etsy when it became apparent that bath & body products would sell well enough to warrant their own shop. I started off with Steampunk bars of what I called “Art Soap”; these were soapy works of art you could wash your body with, and I went from there.

These days, OHWTO is home to a virtual modern-day apothecary and perfumery. From lip balms to soaps, perfumes to hair treatments, there’s something for just about everyone to be found in the shop.

Known for making the world famous Black Magic soap, Becca also custom blends perfumes, often by special request.

One of her newest is I Smell like a Witch.

* I Smell Like A Witch: A special request for Luna of Toxid-Lotus.net, I smell like a Witch came about when a little boy told her that the combination of scents she was wearing made her smell “like a witch”. Heh. Red & White Roses, Cotton Candy, Bubble Gum, Smoke, Sandalwood, Patchouli & Vanilla Bean

I’ve also begged requested a few scents myself, one of which, Goodie Goodie, is a holiday limited edition!

* Goodie Goodie(LE): This was a custom request blend for Grey of LeGothique, spiced gumdrops- you know the ones! This fairly literal scent combines notes of Cinnamon, Peppermint, Anise, Cassia, Sugar & Vanilla (please use caution with this scent as it does contain cinnamon, which can irritate the skin of persons sensitive to it- patch testing is highly recommended before slathering all over yourself)

For the February box, OHWTO will be offering samples sizes of their multi use oil spray for skin and hair… and squeaky hinges and stuck drawers…

EM Jewelry

I’ve been making jewelry for just over a year now and have only recently begun to get more serious about it, finding more and more beautiful gemstones to use and working on developing new skills. The right piece of jewelry can transform a look, give people a peek at a person’s unique personality, and make the wearer feel more confident all at the same time. When I first found Etsy and the millions of gorgeous handmade items, I fell in love with the idea of wearing something truly one of a kind, instead of the ubiquitous Tiffany necklace every girl seems to own (although feel free to send me Tiffany jewelry anytime)!

In my shop, I try to mainly use gemstones and goldfill or sterling silver, but have some less expensive items too. My most popular item by far is the Outlander necklace I made after devouring the entire book series – I’ve had people ask me to remake it several times – and I don’t mind doing the same piece again if it’s something people want. The rest of the time though, I prefer to do only one of each design, so the owner will have something completely unique. I am always open to custom commissions and my customers have been very happy with the results :)

For the Awesome Box soft launch, I wanted to do Sailor Moon-inspired earrings, because the community of women buying the Box is the same one in which I recently discovered some fellow SM addicts! Combining the love of Sailor Moon (the manga will always be the best, even if some of the new translations are a bit odd) and the love of all things sparkly brought me to the Eternal necklace, and from there to the earrings in the mini-box. (I wouldn’t wear the earrings and the necklace at the same time though. Just so we’re clear ;) I hope people will like them!

You can shop EM Jewelry on Etsy and on Store Envy.

Whimsy Beading

I’m really happy to have Whimsy Beading contributing to not just the December Mini Box, but the February launch box as well!

Whimsy Beading are Joey and Kelly. We are devoted partners, sparkly-loving beadweavers, nerdy gamers, cat servants, doggie parents and devoted geeks. Whimsy Beading started in 2009 on Etsy selling beaded necklaces, earrings and other sparkly beaded accessories. Once we discovered beadweaving, we never looked back. We create fun, affordable beadweaving and beaded jewelry for all shapes, sizes and budget ranges using glass and freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystals, sterling silver and tons of shiny, sparkly seed beads.

How long, on average, does a pair of earrings take you to make?

Depending on the style and length, a pair of earrings can take anywhere from half an hour to an hour to make.

Where do you get inspiration from for new colorways?

Everywhere! I especially loved all the fun colorway suggestions in the “Your Favorite Colors” blog contest we recently ran in my blog. I think we’re going to make it an annual contest.   I’ve also just finished a colorway based on the beautiful winter sunsets we get in KY called November Twilight.

What is your favorite piece you’ve ever made?

Midnight Carnival pieces. Each one is slightly different, and changes each time I make them.

Do you have plans for anything new in 2012?

I’m always planning. But to be honest, most of our ideas come out of “I wonder what will happen if I do…” and go from there, so you never know just what’s going to turn up in the shop. Customers too are great sources of inspiration. I never know just what idea is waiting for me in a customer request. That’s part of the fun.
